How long does it take for the body to become unconditioned from running?

Æ asked:

For about the past 5 days I’ve been working on getting in shape by building up to be able to run 3 miles. I finally got to a mile three days ago but then there was an ice storm and I haven’t run in four days. So will I be able to run a mile when I go running again or will I have to start over?

You will be able to run a mile but probably not three miles just work up but you can work up faster this time.

If you had only been running for a total of 5 days before you quit you may have to work back up but it should be quicker than when you first started.

If you’ve only been running for 5 days, it will take you about a month of running at least every other day to be appropriately conditioned to make extended runs.

I think about a 6 months or maybe less.
