need more info steam or hot water, gas or oil & est age . sounds like a low voltage problem . threw the contrls and safties. is there water in the sight glass. is the burner reset poped.red butten on top of oil burner. if poped shut off tstat reset red button and turn t stat on. only do this once. if pops again. call your oil guy if no eater in sight glass. problem w low water cutoff. this tells water feed to turn onand add water till satisfied. if this is problem & u have manual fill add water to middle of sight glass and see if it fires. if this works u will have 2 keep eye on water level till u get lwc off or waterfeed repared.

Is it a standing pilot,, and the pilot is out ?
Is there electric going to the unit,, is a breaker or a switch turned off,,,?
Is there gas to the Boiler?
It is really hard to troubleshoot without knowing what kind of system,,, and what kind of controls it has?
You should not have to drain the water to get it to run again. is this a steam boiler??? or a hot water boiler?

if it is a hot water boiler,, it will not have a sight glass on the side,,,(tall Glass Tube ) showing the water level.
What part of the country are u from ?
Sounds like it went out on the primary control.. it has a reset button on it,, could be red or black… if you push this and it starts the oil burner and oil is spraying into the heat exchanger,, but is not lighting,, and goes off on reset again,, do not keep pushing it,, call a service company,,, if you keep pushing it the heat exchanger will fill up with oil,, and then u have a real big problem when it does light…

Sounds like you need a repairman to come and look at it.

These problems usually result from the burner (if it is an oil fired flame heating system) loosing its pilot light. There should be a printed label on the side or on the inside showing where to light the pilot light.

Also, sometimes the jets that feed the burner get all clogged up with trash that comes from somewhere.
to clean those you need a tiny little straight wire that
is real stiff, and maybe a small brass wire brush. Poke the wire into each little hole in the burner head and wiggle it around to make sure it is open. When you are done, take the brass brush and scrub the burner all over. Take
special care not to hurt the little ceramic *** and wire that is the thremostat head, and or the igniter element.

    Try it out now.

If your heater is electric and no fire at all is involved, forget all the above information. you need a repairman.
