When I start up my computer there is a bunch of applications already running. (For example the printer, Skype, various spyware and viruses etc…)

How can I make it so only the NECESSARY windows programs run at startup?

Start>Run, enter “msconfig” (without quotes, obviously). Uncheck unneeded programs under the various lists.

Programs such as Skype offer the ability to choose whether or not you would like the program to run at startup (just like others such as Windows Explorer). You can choose whether or not you would like a program to run at startup by opening it, signing in (if necessary) and then going to the ‘Tools/Option’ menu. From there it should be straight forward, just read through what is infront of you and tick/untick the appropriate boxes!

If you need further help do let me know!

msconfig is a great starting point, but don’t forget your Startup folder in Start, All Programs. Delete anything that isn’t required.

yeah yeah. start -> msconfig . but get “spyware search and destroy to make it easier(in advanced view there is tool to stop certain programs from runnin at start up) also activate module called teatimer which will inform u about changes in ur registry and programs which try to start automaticly

go to run and type msconfig under startup..uncheck theprograms you dont want to load at startup. Apply and close.those programs will not be loaded on startup the next time you reboot the system.
