What would cause the running lights and the turn signal lights in the dash to come on w/out turning them on?

My father has a ‘92 Isuzu Amigo and while the truck is running and you press on the brakes or turn on the lights the truck will die. We checked for some shorts and found that when I unplugged the driver side tail lamps it kills the truck also. Pulled the fuse for the fuel pump and the truck stayed running.
Any suggestions?

Check your fuse or relay for the lights

    That’s really funny!
I would take it to Dayo’s Garage 15 Fillmore Ave. Tonawanda, NY 14150. That guy can fix anything!

It sounds like a short in the circuit that is bypassing the switch.
