What are some ways to increase my running speed?
September 29th, 2008 | by DistanceRunner |Would running with ankle weights add more quality to my speed in running? What else is there? Also, what are some ways to work on footwork?
And, is leg strength a key part of running defenders over?

I dont know, but I can tell you to dont use ankle weights,in the long run they are going to tear up your achilles

weights arent that effective. they give you pains which discourages you to keep up a regular workout.. go for long runs and every so often break out in a sprint for 50ish yards.
you’ll notice results within a week.

perfect training: running up and down hills
running up em will help increase speed
running down them quickly but with good footwork will work on footwork
leg strength…yea i guess its handy in trucking but the main key is probably upper body strength

I heard some say to shave yur legs, because supposedly hair slows u down, u could lean forward when u run to create the plain, car effect, or u simply just practice harder and u’ll get faster eventually, hope this helps u.

Ankle weights will work….run up stairs or up hills as fast as you can. run to places that are in walking distance but you sometimes are too lazy and drive there…RUN THERE and if your too tired to run then walk quickly. welp thats all the insight I have.

What he said the weight will end up bad. I’d say workout with weights on your leg muslces and run often. If you do that im sure it should increase speed.
It could be your technique too. or how you run.

You have to get the defender off balance with some moves, then you can run them over, leg strength play a part also.

-The suggestion to run up hills or bleachers is a good one (used by the great Walter Payton). If you are a farm kid, running in fresh plowed dirt also works well.
-Doing interval sprint training (you can google that for instructions) is quite effective.
-There are several parts to footwork. I would use google or youtube for some ideas there.
-Running over defenders is a blend of the above two along with overall size and balance. Again, I would seek some professional recommendations (coaches, etc) on how to best train as a running back.

Weight training for speed is like deciding to quit eating to lose weight…its not smart and it doesnt work. Check out the link below, read thru it carefully. This cant be explained in detail in this type of forum. My nephew used this training and in 2 1/2 monthes the difference was amazing…a year later and ALL of his team mates are doing it now.
