How come cockroaches start running when I try to kill them with toilet paper?

I wanted to kill this cockroach but it starts moving its antennas and then starts running when I’m trying to kill it.
PEOPLE LISTEN i’m trying to say how do the COCKROACHES know that i’m trying to kill them?

    Because, like all creatures, they have a survival instinct. It doesn’t want to die - even if it is not conscious of that instinct.

    It senses your motion with its antenna and obviously since it wants to live it runs the hell away.

    They are really sensitive to light and motion, not so much the toilet paper. Mix up baking soda and sugar and leave it around where you see the roaches. The sugar attracts them, and the baking soda gives them gas. They can’t burp, so…… This is cheap, effective, and you don’t have to worry about kids or pets getting into it.
