What type of running should I practice to develop large muscles?

As far as I know running makes your muscles smaller, or at least doesn’t develop them since you’re whole body is working 100% during running. However, some runners have very large muscles. What type of running should I practice to develop large calf muscles?

Running itself doesn’t devlop large muscles. It does help tone the body up and burn fat. Many runners also do weight training to build their muscles up. M,ainly working legs, back, abs and chest. The only muscles that running do seem to help develop a little are the calf muscles caused their used harder in running. But still you need to hit the weights if you want larger muscles.

Typically sprinting and running stadium bleachers or stairs will develop muscles rather than running distances.
Most sprinters get their muscles from lifting weights and doing plyometric exercises, not just running.

Oh, I know the perfect answer! I’m a runner and have been running for 15 years — and that’s how my muscles are quite large. Seriously, my calf muscles used to just be muscular, but as the years went on, and my training intensity increased (I run ultramarathons now), my calves grew.

If you really want to develop large calf muscles, I suggest you supplement your runs with frequent weight room visits.
